CASE STUDY - Business
The clients’ goals
Steve and Anita are husband and wife, and joint owners and directors of a successful local recruitment agency. They wanted to grow the business by recruiting new staff, whilst maintaining and improving their provision of high quality recruitment. They also had short and long term personal goals; the short term one relating to balancing their work without having an adverse affect on a young family and the long term one being where they wanted their life position to be in ten years.
Before we got started
Success relies largely on finding the right coach. The couple met four coaches before deciding I was the right fit, as Anita explains:
“We felt it was important that, if we decided to proceed, our coach would take the time to listen and understand not only our business decisions but our personal choices too. Alan was subtle, inspiring and instilled a massive amount of confidence in both of us and our ability to build and grow our business successfully.”
I used the metaphor of a train journey. We knew our destination, but not the starting point. What are the current strengths? What gaps (if any) need to be filled? What is the level of risk you’re willing to take?
From there we agreed ‘stations’ along the route. These are milestones to reach, where we pause and make sure the train is on time, still heading for the same destination, and has the right people on board. We also take time to check that personal goals are being met and are in alignment with the journey.
As Anita describes it:
“Your approach, manner and coaching technique are very respectful and subtle but you have always left us feeling that we are moving forward in line with our plans.”
Steve and Anita moved the business forward, from working from home, to building a separate home office and employing two people. They have adjusted their mindset from ‘Can we grow our business?’ to ‘How big do we want this business to be?’
When asked how coaching had changed their thinking, the reply was:
“By questioning, listening, understanding and imparting your wisdom.”
So their journey continues as they are now looking for commercial premises
While I always respect the confidentiality of my clients, a few have granted me permission to share their thoughts.
